Dr. Arizmendi is an Assistant Professor in the College of Science at the University of Arizona, with appointments in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Cognitive Science and is the director of the Multicultural Bilingual Certificate Program. As an interdisciplinary clinician-scientist, she is dedicated to community-centered, representative science that drives systemic change across disciplines and into practice. She is a certified and licensed bilingual speech language pathologist with over 10 years of clinical experience, committed to improving clinical-research practices and educational outcomes for Spanish-English speaking communities.

Dr. Arizmendi earned her PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona and expanded her expertise through postdoctoral training in Educational Psychology at the University of New Mexico and in Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Center for Equity Promotion.

Within the framework of her research program, Dr. Arizmendi aims to mitigate disparities and advance equity within the educational and healthcare systems. Dr. Arizmendi interrogates how policy and social context influence bilingual development and educational outcomes. Drawing from her professional research and clinical training, she uses implementation science frameworks to examine the intersection of cognition, language, and academic achievement in bilingual children with diverse learning profiles, spanning typical development, developmental language disorder, and difficulties with mathematics and reading.

She continues to practice clinically as a forensic speech-language pathologist and conducts evaluations for Spanish and Spanish-English speaking inmates facing capital punishment.

As a proud fronteriza who grew up on the U.S.-Mexico border and triple UArizona Alumni turned faculty, she is excited about leading research in her community that addresses the needs of her community. #BearDown! #SiSePuede!
