Pathway for Underrepresented Education and Networking in Training and Empowerment (PUENTE)!

Only fitting to start Hispanic-Latino/e Heritage Month with a recap of the amazing week the BABEL Lab had launching our recently funded Hispanic Serving Institution Faculty Seed Grant, Pathway for Underrepresented Education and Networking in Training and Empowerment (PUENTE) for Diversity in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology! 🥳✊🏽

We had the chance to connect with high school students from 9-12th grades with the help of our incredible partner Ms. Elizabeth Skeggs at Desert View High School and Director of Arizona Upward Bound @uarizona.ub and fellow triple wildcat amiga, Dra. @arletty143 serving Pueblo and Cholla High School! We are partnering with these amazing folks for the remainder of the school year to deliver the culturally responsive educational curriculum we are designing on the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. We can’t thank our partners enough! 🗣️🫶🏽

Our BABEL lab research assistants did a phenomenal job helping with this amazing launch - big kudos to @melanie.ramirezzz @quienesmelii @miracledes99 🤩👏🏽!!!

It’s work like this that reminds us all of the amazing things we can do together for our students and how important representation is to us all. This research is by us and for us, and we are committed to uplifting our gente in knowing all that is possible when they know and aware of all the amazing knowledge they already come with just by being themselves.

¡Viva el orgullo sonorense! ✊🏽🇲🇽❤️💙
