Language transfer is a common process for bilingual speakers in language development, and today we share the awesome work of our fantastic research assistant @lindseyysherman that explains more on this process đ€©. Language transfer refers to the transfer of grammar and language rules from one language to another, in both a purposeful/conscious efforts as well as unconscious processes that the brain adopts to process two sets of languages. đ§
There are many different influences on language development, and like the transfer phenomena, there may be both positive results, as well as challenges along the way as a result of cross-linguistic influences that are normal and part of bilingual development.
It is important to be aware of this phenomena, especially in bilingual education in order to give the child the full support that they need.
Do you ever see any transfer happening for you or people in your life? Is it conscious or unconscious? đ
